If you need help hiring HVAC technicians, you’re not alone. Finding a good HVAC technician can be difficult, especially if you live in the city. There are many options to choose from! There are big companies, small companies, and everything in between: but which should you choose?

There are keys that you need to look for when hiring an HVAC technician. If you follow these tips, you’re far more likely to have a good experience and get your money’s worth. So how do you find a good HVAC technician?

Hiring HVAC Technician Tips

Credentials

HVAC technicians are legally required to have certain licenses in order to operate. In the state of Georgia, HVAC technicians need to have a conditioned air license and an EPA certification.

Moreover, there are two classes of conditioned air licenses: a restricted one (Class I) and an unrestricted one (Class II). Class II has much more stringent requirements and every HVAC team in Georgia should have someone who is Class II certified.

All HVAC technicians in Georgia require a $10,000 cash or surety bond as well.

Experience

A highly experienced HVAC technician will gladly explain his or her experience to a client. You don’t need to choose based entirely on years of experience, but you do want a technician with the experience to know what your problem is.

References & customer reviews

In today’s society, online reviews are king when it comes to purchase decisions, and there’s a reason for that. It’s because those reviews ring true.

However, online reviews should not be the only review source you use. Ask the technician for references and follow up with them. It’s best if you can get a reference that had a similar problem as you.

Pricing

We left pricing for last not because it’s the least important, but because it should never be the first consideration when choosing an HVAC technician! It’s true that a more experienced HVAC technician with a more well-respected company will charge higher hourly rates, but it’s also just as likely that said technician can do the job quicker or more completely, preventing unnecessary future costs.

Choose a technician that is upfront about pricing and gives you a fair rate. Most importantly, get quotes from several technicians to compare!
